Huskies Win Pac-12 Championship
May 11, 2019 | Softball
SEATTLE – The #2 Washington Huskies clinched the Pac-12 co-championship with a 3-0 shutout win over the Stanford Cardinal. Washington finishes the regular season 20-4 in Pac-12 play, just the second time ever the team has won 20 games in conference and first since 1996's record 23 wins.
Washington clinched a share of the Pac-12 championship today, sharing the title with UCLA. This marks the fourth Pac-12 championship in school history. The Huskies have also won Pac-12 championships in 1996, 2000, and 2010.
Taran Alvelo pitched 4.2 scoreless innings for the Huskies to start the game, making it two starts in a row without a walk. She would strike out five in the game, allowing four singles and nothing else. Gabbie Plain would earn her fourth save of the year with 2.1 scoreless innings.
Sami Reynolds keyed the offense with her three extra-base hits, including a two-run home run that opened the scoring. Morganne Flores also had an RBI, while SilentRain Espinoza recorded two singles to put the pressure on Stanford.
With the regular season now complete, the Huskies will await the NCAA Selection Show tomorrow at 6:00 pm on ESPN2.
