Huskies Pick Up Postseason Shutout 2-0 Over Fordham
May 17, 2019 | Softball
SEATTLE ย โ The #2 Washington Huskies won their first postseason game for the 25th consecutive year, beating the Fordham Rams 2-0. Washington will advance to play Mississippi State tomorrow.
Gabbie Plain was nearly unhittable, allowing two walks and nothing else through the first five innings. The sophomore would retire 11 in a row after a leadoff walk started the game. Only four Rams reached in the game, with Plain allowing only two hits.
Plain would end the day with 14 strikeouts, tying the school record for postseason strikeouts in a game of seven or fewer innings. It was Plain's ninth double-digit strikeout game this year and gave her over 200 on the season, making Washington the first team in the nation with two 200+ K pitchers. Four times Plain retired the side in order, including a perfect 1-2-3 seventh inning.
Sis Bates and Morganne Flores were a part of both Washington runs, with Flores driving Bates in after Bates hits each time. SilentRain Espinoza also put the pressure on with two hits in the game.
