FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Husky track team finished up its final regular season road meet today at the National Relays in Arkansas, running three relays today plus a couple Huskies competing in the field.
Saturday's morning events on the track were hampered by extremely stiff winds today at John McDonnell Field. Evidence of the wind can be seen in the triple jump series of sophomore Jaylen Taylor, who jumped 49-11 on his best attempt today to finish sixth, but had no tailwind less than a +4.2 and other competitors had several winds above +7.0 up to a +9.5.
That contributed to teams running short of their season-bests across the board in the relay events this morning. Still the Huskies battled through the winds as well as could be, starting with the men's 4x100-meter relay. Jordan Lucas, Kemuel Santana, Evan Mafilas, and Khalil Winfrey took fifth in that race with a time of 41.10 seconds.
In the men's 4x400-meters, the Huskies went with Mafilas, Cass Elliott, Santana, and Jason Palmer, and that group earned an eighth-place finish in 3:13.11, with only two teams breaking 3:10 today.
The women's 4x400m squad was comprised of Morganne Hill, Carly Lester, Darhian Mills, and Imani Apostol, and they took second in their heat in a time of 3:44.48.
The other Husky in action today was sophomore Jonah Wilson, who opened with a shot put toss of 60-7 3/4 but then had four fouls in a row, before ending on a positive with a solid toss of 62-3 1/4.
Next week Washington will conclude the regular season, while starting the postseason simultaneously. The Huskies will host the Ken Shannon Invitational on May 4 at Husky Outdoor Track, while the Pac-12 Multi-Event Championships also begin in Tucson, Ariz. on May 4-5.
