No. 6 Hawaii Gets The Win In Regular Season Finale
April 16, 2019 | Beach Volleyball
HONOLULU – Washington Beach Volleyball closed out the regular season last night with a late night dual against sixth-ranked Hawaii, with the Rainbow Wahine taking the match, 5-0. The match started a 7 p.m. Pacific time but stretched past midnight as the matches were spaced out for local television purposes.
The first match of the evening proved to be the closest, as Chloe Newton and Callie Weber continued their solid play at the No. 5 spot. They took the first set over Hawaii's Dreeuws/Russo, 21-16, lost the second set, 11-21, and couldn't quite grab set three, falling 13-15.
In the exhibition match going on at the same time as the No. 5 match, freshmen Kyra Petersen and Anna Visser also were a couple points from a win, but fell 12-21, 22-20, 15-12 to Stevens/Hurkett.
Hawaii clinched with straight set victories on courts 3 and 4, defeating Cat McCoy and Avie Niece at No. 3 and Emma Calle and Samantha Drechsel on court four.
Kara Bajema and Shayne McPherson dropped a 21-16, 21-11 decision at No. 2 to Homayun/Scoles, and while Destiny Julye and Kristen Gengenbacher played Hawaii's top pair much closer than their previous match on Saturday, Maglio/Ozee still earned a 21-18, 21-16 win to close things out.
The Huskies will now be off until the Pac-12 Championships, held April 25-27 in Los Angeles at USC's facility.
