SEATTLE - The final matches of the regular season take the Husky beach volleyball team to the beaches of Honolulu this week. Washington makes a return to the Queen's Cup, hosted by sixth-ranked Hawaii at Queen's Beach. The Dawgs will play three matches on Saturday, two matches Sunday, and then one more dual on Monday against the Rainbow Wahine in a match separate from the Queen's Cup.
The Huskies (6-10) will have several more opportunities to knock off a ranked team this weekend as UW will face No. 6 Hawaii at least twice this weekend and 14th-ranked Loyola Marymount at least once.
Saturday will be round robin play, as the Huskies will take on San Jose State, LMU, and Hawaii once each. Based on the round robin, teams 1 and 4 will play in one semifinal on Sunday and 2 and 3 will play the other. The winners will play in the championship and a third-place match will also take place.
Heading into this weekend, senior Destiny Julye has moved up to second in school history in career dual wins with 41, three behind Courtney Schwan's school record of 44.
The Rainbow Wahine are 18-7 on the year and five of those losses have been 3-2 defeats to top-10 competition. The Lions of LMU are 19-8 overall with three wins over ranked competition. San Jose State is having its best season of beach thus far with an 11-7 record and they took a point in a pair of losses to ranked Pac-12 teams Stanford and California.
