SEATTLE - The USA Women's Collegiate National Team has chosen three Huskies to participate in the Anaheim training and competition block taking place this June 23-29. Samantha Drechsel, Ella May Powell, and Lauren Sanders will all make the trip to the American Sports Centers in Anaheim. Five Huskies have now been named to USA squads for the summer, as Kara Bajemaย and Avie Niece were both recently named to the World University Games roster.
After practicing for several days, the program will hold a public Red-Blue scrimmage on June 28 in the vicinity of Anaheim (site and time TBA).
Sanders was part of the Collegiate National Team - Detroit a year ago, while Powell last represented the U.S. in 2016 on the Girls Youth National Team for the NORCECA Championships.
Powell was an All-Pac-12 Freshman Team pick last year, leading the Huskies with 1,317 assists and playing every set. Sanders was All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention for the second time, averaging 1.93 kills per set out of the middle while hitting .315 and adding 1.06 blocks per set. Drechsel's sophomore season and first at UW saw her rank second on the team with 3.17 kills per set, leading UW in kills in 11 matches and earning Pac-12 Player of the Week after the Huskies had a road sweep over USC and UCLA.
