Four Early Runs Lead To Husky Win Over OSU

SEATTLE – The #7 Washington Huskies struck early and held firm in the lead, beating Oregon State 5-2 in the first game of the weekend series. Morganne Flores homered for the second consecutive game, while Sis Bates reached base to leadoff the first and third innings, coming around to score both times.

Gabbie Plain threw 19 first-pitch strikes in the game, cruising to her 11^th win. She would give up two runs, both on solo home runs, while recording eight strikeouts.

The first four spots in the order all had hits for Washington, hitting a combined .600. Bates and Sami Reynolds scored two runs. Flores, Reynolds, Taryn Atlee, and Kaija Gibson had Washington's RBI.

		SCORING
First Inning: Washington struck early as the first four batters of the game reached base, scoring two runs. Third Inning: Bates' leadoff double started another Husky rally, with Bates and Reynolds doubling the lead. Fourth Inning: Oregon State hit a solo home run for its first run of the game. Fifth Inning: The eighth home run by Flores in her last 12 games, this one over the Husky eyes in center, made it 5-1. Seventh Inning: Oregon State hit another leadoff homer but couldn't cut it closer than 5-2.

		NOTES
Plain (7 IP, 2 ER, 8 K) has gone 4-0 with a 0.81 ERAagainst Oregon State in her career. Plain recorded her 300^th career strikeout in her 251^st inning. Only Danielle Lawrie and Caitlin Noble have reached 300 career strikeouts faster in UW history. In her last seven games, Bates (2x3, 2 R, 2B) has scored ten runs and driven in five more. Flores (2x2, HR) extended her streak of multi-hit games to four, with five homers during that time. Reynolds (1x3, 2 R, RBI, SB) now has a five-game hit streak, the longest of her career. Emma Helm (1x2, BB) has hit .400 with three walks over her last five games.

The Huskies and Beavers play again tomorrow at 5:00 pm, with the series finale on Sunday at noon.
