
Beach Dawgs Knock Off Huskers, Roadrunners

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Dawgs got over the .500 mark for the first time this season today with two victories to get to 6-4 on the year. Washington defeated Nebraska, 4-1, in the first meeting between the two teams on the sand, and then handled Cal State Bakersfield in a sweep without dropping a set.
Playing at Rosie's Dog Beach, the Huskies beat the Huskers this morning helped by a couple third set wins at the three and four positions. At No. 3, Cat McCoy and Samantha Drechsel had a win in a tight match throughout, defeating Kukova/Kubik, 19-21, 22-20, 15-13. At the No. 4 spot, Kyra Petersen and Emma Calle came back from a set down to beat Densberger/Szabo, 18-21, 21-11, 15-11.
Kara Bajema and Shayne McPherson had a straight set win at No. 2, 21-14, 21-14, and Callie Weber and Chloe Newton were straight set winners at No. 5, 21-9, 21-16. Nebraska's one point came at No. 1 where Destiny Julye and Kristen Gengenbacher lost a close 21-18, 21-19 decision to Stivrins/Hames.
In the second match against the Roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield, the Huskies did not drop a set. Using the same lineup as the first match, the Huskies had their first 5-0 sweep of the season.
Next Friday, Mar. 29, the Huskies will play their only home matches of the season with a double-header against Arizona at Alki Beach.
