SEATTLE - Washington defender
Kaylene Pang was named a Mary Gates Research Scholar. Pang is one of a select few undergraduate students at the University of Washington who will have the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor on a research project and accompanying presentation in their field of choice thanks to the Mary Gates Endowment for Students.
"Being selected as a Mary Gates Research Scholar means so much to me because it is an honor to be selected out of such a large competitive pool of applicants and receiving the University's support will encourage me to delve more deeply in my research, which has very promising prospects," said Pang. "I'm very excited to continuing advancing the health care field with the support of the Mary Gates Research Scholarship."
Pang will work in the molecular biophotonics lab, with her research project focusing on how to use molecular 3D pathology techniques to provide superior predictions on tumor aggressiveness and improve prostate cancer care.
A Pac-12 All-Academic selection last season, Pang played every minute for the Huskies, working at both outside back and central defender. She scored a brace against Cal, the only brace of the season for Washington, and ended the year with three goals.
