Alvelo Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate
March 14, 2019 | Softball
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Taran Alvelo was named one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS award, recognizing those seniors who use athletics to make positive impacts in their communities. Alvelo is the only candidate from the Pac-12 for the award.
This year, Alvelo has already recorded her 700th career strikeout and 100th career start, all while lowering her career ERA under 2.00. She is in Washington's top ten in almost every pitching category and already has over 100 strikeouts this year, making it four consecutive years with 100+ strikeouts. She is fourth in the country among active pitchers in career strikeouts.
The Senior CLASS award is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School and is based around the four core values of community, classroom, character, and competition. The candidate list will be narrowed to ten finalists later this year.
