Six-Run First Helps Huskies To Run-Rule Win Over Idaho State

SEATTLE – Taran Alvelo faced one batter over the minimum as the #6 Washington Huskies cruised to an 8-0 run-rule victory over the Idaho State Bengals. Washington struck for six runs in the first and never looked back, with nine of the first ten batters reaching safely.

Alvelo allowed only two baserunners, one via walk and one via single, in her third complete-game shutout of the season. She struck out nine Bengals, bringing an end to her streak of four consecutive starts with double-digit strikeouts, though all of those other starts were regulation-length games.

Emma Helm had a big game offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double and a home run. She was one of four Huskies with multiple hits in the game, joined in that regard by Sis Bates, Taryn Atlee, and Sami Reynolds.

		SCORING
First Inning: With the first six batters of the game reaching safely, Washington jumped to an early lead. The Huskies would score six runs in the first frame, tied for their highest-scoring inning of the season. Second Inning: Emma Helm hit her third home run of the year to extend the lead. Fourth Inning: After singles by Reynolds and Emma Helm, Kaija Gibson drove in another run to make it 8-0.

		NOTES
This was Helm's (3x3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) second career three-hit day. She also went 3-for-3 March 31, 2018 at Stanford. Alvelo (5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 9 K) extended her scoreless streak to 22 innings. She has not allowed an earned run in 32.2 innings. Bates (2x3, R, RBI) had her eighth multi-hit game of the season.

Washington begins Pac-12 play next week as they play host to UCLA, with game one of that series set for March 15 at 7:00 pm.
