FULLERTON, Calif. – A nailbiting back-and-forth game went the way of the #5 Washington Huskies, 8-6 over the #21 Auburn Tigers in nine innings. Washington, who led early, had to fight through multiple dangerous situations in extras before finally taking the lead for good in the top of the ninth.

Gabbie Plain worked four innings of one-run ball to start the game, then reentered in the eighth inning and got her sixth win. Taran Alvelo pitched three innings of relief for the Huskies as well.

Drama abounded throughout the late innings, starting with Megan Vandegrift sliding in under the tag in the seventh inning to tie the game back up 5-5. Vandegrift would drive in a run the next inning in her only at-bat of the game.

Auburn would tie the game in the eighth before Plain found her groove. With the bases loaded and no outs, Plain got back-to-back strikeouts, then grabbed a bouncing grounder for a 1-3 putout that kept the game tied. Washington would jump on that energy and score twice in the ninth, sealing up the win.

		SCORING
Second Inning: Rachel Ogasawara smoked a low liner through the right side to put the punctuation on a two-out rally, bringing Livy Schiele in for a 1-0 lead. Third Inning: Kaija Gibson cleared the bases with a two-run double in the third, hitting the ball high off the right-center wall to make it 3-0. Fourth Inning: Auburn managed two extra-base hits in the fourth, getting on the board. Fifth Inning: A three-run homer put Auburn on top as part of a four-run inning, making it 5-4 Tigers. Seventh Inning: Gibson's grounder to the right side tied the game back up, 5-5. Eighth Inning: After scoring the run that tied the game in the seventh, Vandegrift brought home the run with her single up the middle. Eighth Inning: Auburn brought the tiebreaker runner in with a single before stranding the bases loaded. Ninth Inning: The Husky offense broke through in a big way in extras. Sami Reynolds' single put the Huskies on top, with a groundout by Nawai Kaupe bringing in an insurance run for a 8-6 lead.

		NOTES
Taryn Atlee (1x4, BB) extended her hitting streak to six games. Bates (1x3, 2 R) had her 160^th career hit in her 142^nd career game, the fastest any Husky has reached that mark since Ali Aguilar did so in 134 games. Plain's (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 6 K) scoreless streak came to a close after 22.2 innings. Gibson (1x4, 2B, 3 RBI, BB) drove in her eighth and ninth RBI this season, tying her career total entering 2019. Ogasawara (1x2, RBI) appeared in her 50^th career game. Bates' error was her first this year. She was the last shortstop in the Pac-12 without an error.

Washington has just one game tomorrow at the Judi Garman Classic, playing Fresno State at 3:00 pm.
