Huskies Sign Karl Koerper For 2019-20
February 06, 2019 | Baseball
SEATTLE – Washington coach Lindsay Meggs announced the addition of Karl Koerper to the 2019 signing class. Koerper, a left-handed hitting infielder from Las Cruces, N.M., will join the Huskies in the fall of 2019.
Koerper is currently enrolled at Pima College after spending 2018 at the University of New Mexico. He stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 245 pounds, giving Coach Meggs a big threat in the middle of the lineup.
"Karl will be a great addition to our 2019 class as he comes from a quality junior college program and he'll be able to step in and compete right away," said Meggs, who is entering his 10th season at Washington.
"Karl is very similar in size and stature to our own Joe Wainhouse. Like Joe, Karl has big league power and the ability to drive in a lot of runs. Karl will compete right away for at bats in the middle of the lineup, and we believe he will make everyone around him better."
Koerper played high school ball at Centennial in New Mexico. He was first team All-State and All-District as a designated hitter during his 2017 senior season in which he hit .329 with 27 RBI's, two home runs and 10 doubles.
"I chose Washington because of the opportunity I would have to play for a great program with a lot of history. For me, I have never worried about where I was going to play. All I've wanted is to just get the opportunity to go out and play baseball. It has always been a dream of mine to play baseball in the Pac-12, and to be able to play baseball for the University of Washington is an extremely humbling opportunity."
Koerper comes from a talented baseball family as two of his older brothers – Kris and Joseph – played collegiately at New Mexico State.
"Karl is a baseball rat," said Meggs. "He has older brothers who played at the D-I level, so he has been around it for a long time. He is a good student and a great teammate and comes from a great family. Karl is a great fit for us, and I can't wait to get him on campus."
Koerper joins nine others who previously signed letters of intent to join the Huskies in 2020. The entire list of signees is below:
