February 26, 2019 | Women's Golf
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The University of Washington women's golf team saved their best round for last on Tuesday at the Bruin/Wave Invitational as they posted a 10-over 298 over the final 18 holes en route to a seventh-place finish at 52-over 916 (305-313-298). The Huskies were led by two top 25 finishers in junior Alice Duan (T15th) and senior Sarah Rhee (T18th).
"We definitely scored better today but we are still making too many unforced errors out there," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "It was exciting to see Alice have such a nice round today which ended up being tied for the low round of the tournament. We have a couple of weeks to fine tune some things before heading to Tucson for our next event."
Duan made major moves during the final round as she climbed 34 spots up on the leaderboard into a tie for 15th. She tied the low round of the tournament with her score of 2-under 70 on Tuesday, improving upon her second round total by eight strokes. Overall, Duan finished with an 11-over 227 (79-78-70) and her final round featured four birdies with just two blemishes.
Finishing just one stroke behind Duan was senior Sarah Rhee who carded a 12-over 228 (71-75-82) to tie for 18th. It was the fourth top 25 effort of the season for the senior and her first of the spring campaign. Sophomore Rino Sasaki posted a 16-over 232 (76-79-77) to place tied for 39th while junior Karen Miyamoto earned a tie for 50th after climbing 14 spots on Tuesday with her 19-over 235 (80-81-74). Rounding out the UW crew was freshman Martha Lewis who tied for 59th with her 21-over 237 (79-81-77).
