Helm Homer Helps Huskies Win 3-1

CATHEDRAL, Calif. – Three runs in the fifth and another strong performance from Gabbie Plain helped the #5 Washington Huskies wrap up a 3-1 win over the Northwestern Wildcats. Plain retired every batter she faced after entering in the third inning. Emma Helm's two-run homerun, her second of the year, put Washington on top for good.
Pat Moore and Plain each saw action in the circle for Washington. Moore worked the first 2.2 innings, including a 1-2-3 second. Plain entered with two outs in the third and runners on the corners, getting a flyout to end that threat. She would go on to retire all
The fifth inning made the difference for the Huskies. After a 1-2-3 top half from Plain, Washington started the offense with a leadoff single by Sami Reynolds. Livy Schiele's double and Helm's two-run blast would push the Huskies into the lead and make the difference in the game.
Washington will return to southern California next weekend for the Judi Garman Classic, beginning March 1.
