Bajema Wins Record Fifth Pac-12 Weekly Honor
November 25, 2019 | Volleyball
SEATTLE โ For the second straight week, and the fifth time this season, Lynden native Kara Bajema has been voted the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. Bajema is the first Husky ever to win five Player of the Week awards in one season, and the first Pac-12 player to win that many in one season since 2015.
ย
Bajema helped the Huskies extend their win streak to seven matches with road victories over Arizona and Arizona State. In both matches, Bajema finished with 22 kills, hitting .315 against the Wildcats and then hitting .413 against the Sun Devils. She added 25 digs for the week to earn her 14th and 15th double-doubles this season.
ย
The 2018 All-Pac-12 performer is now averaging a career-high 4.42 kills per set this season while hitting .263 to go with 29 service aces, 2.53 digs per set, and 0.64 blocks per set. Her 4.42 kills per set would rank as Washington's second-highest single season mark in the 25-point era (2008-present) behind just the 4.67 mark from Honda Award winner Krista Vansant in 2014. Vansant was a four-time Pac-12 Player of the Week in both 2013 and 2014.
ย
Washington (23-5, 14-4 Pac-12) wraps up the regular season at home this week, facing California this Wednesday in a 4 p.m. match and then hosting Washington State in the Boeing Apple Cup Series on Saturday at Alaska Airlines Arena. The Huskies can finish alone in second with a win in either match, and can still mathematically share the Pac-12 title with two wins and two losses for first-place Stanford.
