Huskies Fall to No. 5 Stanford, 1-0
November 10, 2019 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE --- Stanford scored a first half goal and despite a valiant fight by Washington, the Huskies suffered a 1-0 loss in a top-five battle on Sunday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The Huskies suffered their second-straight loss and fall to 14-3-0 on the season but still control their own destiny to win the Pac-12 Title with a 7-2-0 record. The Cardinal improve to 13-1-3 on the season and moved to within a point of Washington in the conference standings with a 6-1-2 Pac-12 record. Stanford faces rival Cal on Thursday while the Huskies travel to face Oregon State on Friday. Washington can win the Pac-12 title with a win in Corvallis or a tie if the Cardinal draw at Cal. If Stanford loses at Cal, Washington would clinch the Pac-12 title as well.
Stanford scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute off a long cross headed into the goal to give the Cardinal a lead at the break.Β
Washington had a chance to score just before the Stanford goal as Blake Bodily sent in a nice cross into the box where Jaret Townsend settled the ball in the box. But as he turned to shoot the Stanford netminder was able to dive in and take the ball off his foot.Β

A little bit into the second half, Gio Miglietti was taken down just outside of the box near the endline on the far side. Imanol Rosales took the free kick and beat the keeper but saw it rattle off the cross bar and go out.
Β
in the 63rdΒ minute, the Huskies had another great chance. Blake Bodily sent a cross to the far post where Townsend headed the ball toward the far post. Again, the Huskies beat the keeper with the shot, but this time a Stanford defender was able to clear it off the line to keep the lead.
Washington held a 12-10 lead in shot in the game including a 7-0 edge in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.Β
The Huskies suffered back-to-back losses for the first time since early October of last year and lost back-to-back home games for the first time since the middle of 2017.Β
