Peng Finishes Runner-Up At Maridoe Intercollegiate; Huskies Come In Eighth
October 08, 2019 | Men's Golf
CARROLLTON, Texas β Bo Peng finished second overall and the No. 2-ranked University of Washington men's golf team came in eighth as a team at the three-day Maridoe Intercollegiate. The Huskies finished the week with a tally of 50-over 914Β after totaling a 310 in Tuesday's final round at the Maridoe Golf Course.
"We played poorly apart from Bo who was really excellent and played a very mature tournament," said head coach Alan Murray. "He was the youngest guy in the lineup but played with the oldest head on his shoulders and speaks volumes about his ability to compete at this level."Β
Β
Peng continued his impressive play, carding a 72 Tuesday to finish 2-over 218 en route to coming in second. The freshman posted round scores of 75, 71 and 72 to lead the way for the Dawgs.
"To finish in second place individually in only his third college tournament is really impressive and he is already establishing himself as one of our best players," added Murray. "He is a very even keel type of guy and on this type of golf course it's definitely an asset. He did a great job of dealing with the inevitable bogeys that come at a place like this and kept plodding along and believing in what he was doing. His score reflected how well he managed himself."Β
Petr Hruby fired a 74 in his final round and tallied a total of 14-over 230 to finish tied for 26th. Paul Margolis was the next finisher for UW, coming in one stroke back of Hruby, while Jan Schneider ended with a 16-over 232.
UW will continue its travels next week, as the Huskies will participate in the two-day Georgetown Intercollegiate beginning next Monday, Oct. 14 in Beallsville, Md.
