Ali Aguilar Named To U.S. Olympic Roster
October 06, 2019 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY - The roster for the 2020 Olympics was announced today by USA Softball, with Washington's own Ali Aguilar making the team. Aguilar is the fifth Husky ever to make an Olympic team, joining Jennifer Spediacci, Jaime Clark, Danielle Lawrie, and Jenn Salling.
Aguilar graduated from Washington after the 2017 season, during which she earned her second All-American honor and led the Huskies to the Women's College World Series. She has played with Team USA for years, having been a part of the WBSC World Championship teams for the USA in both 2016 and 2018. This year, she helped lead Team USA to a Pan-American Games gold medal.
Aguilar joins Jaime Clark as the only Huskies to represent Team USA on an Olympics roster. She is a part of Washington's prestigious community of international softball players: Taran Alvelo has played with Puerto Rico during its attempt to reach the Olympics, while Gabbie Plain helped Australia clinch a spot in the 2020 Olympics, as did Lawrie, Salling, and Victoria Hayward for Team Canada.
The 2020 Olympics will begin in July in Tokyo, Japan.
