Miyamoto Tied for Eighth; Dawgs in Fourth at Cardinal Cup

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Washington women's golf team sits in fourth place following the first 36 holes of the Cardinal Cup on Saturday as they finished with a 7-over 295 to move their two-round total to 14-over 590 (295-295). The final 18 holes of the three-day tournament at the University of Louisville Golf Club begins Sunday morning at 6 a.m. PT.
Senior Karen Miyamoto made moves up the leaderboard during Saturday's 18 holes as she carded an even par 72 to climb three spots into a tie for eighth place at 1-over 145 (73-72). Miyamoto opened the day going 3-over during her first four holes but she bounced back with three-straight pars, a birdie and an eagle to close her front nine. She added two more birdies on the back nine to finish at even par.
Joining her in a day two score improvement was sophomore Martha Lewis who climbed into a tie for 13th after recording a 1-over 73. It was a two-stroke gain for Lewis, who turned in a scorecard that featured just two bogeys during her first seven holes. She then made a birdie before the turn and made par on every hole on the back nine. Lewis' two-round total is now 4-over 148 (75-73).
Senior Alice Duan also sits in the top 20 as she finished with a 4-over 76 and is now tied for 18th at 4-over 148 (72-76). Just two strokes behind her at 6-over 150 (76-74) is freshman Winnie Ng after the newcomer posted three birdies on Saturday to climb 14 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 23rd. Rounding out the UW lineup was freshman Brittany Kwon as she is tied for 49th at 9-over 153 (75-78).
The third and final round begins Sunday morning in Louisville with live results available on Golfstat.com
