Washington Earns Four Event Titles In Home Opener
January 26, 2019 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – Helped along by an impressive performance from Evanni Roberson, the #11 Washington Huskies put up a 195.900 in their first home meet of the season, narrowly missing a dual meet win over Oregon State. Roberson came away with three event titles, including her first career all-around title thanks to a career-best score of 39.475.
"We competed tentatively and made too many mistakes," said Elise Ray-Statz. "We're too prepared to compete like that. With that being said, the performances from our sophomore and junior classes were stellar and a testament to what this is team is capable of."
It was the second week in a row that Washington has won at least three event titles. After wins on vault, bars, and beam at Arizona, it was Roberson and Geneva Thompson who earned titles this week. Thompson won her second straight vault title, while Roberson won event titles on bars, floor, and all-around. Roberson also earned three scores of 9.900 for the first time in her career.
