STILLWATER, Okla. – Following Saturday's second round at the 2018 NCAA Championships, the 15th-ranked Washington women's golf team now sits in 11th place at 27-over 603 (303-300) heading into Sunday's 18 holes. Following the third round, nine of the 24 teams will be cut leaving 15 to play on Monday which will then decide the eight teams that advance to match play on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Saturday's round featured about a 90-minute rain delay during Washington's back nine as players were on holes 12-17.
"We once again struck the ball really well today but we have just got to have some putts fall in tomorrow," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "These greens are so fast and we really have to be dialed in. We're getting good looks, just need to take it that one step further. I thought the team handled the rain delay really well and came out ready following the pause. We have the third most pars in the field and we just need to start knocking in some birdies, which we are capable of doing.:
Sophomore Karen Miyamoto led the Dawgs in round two as she climbed 21 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 30th following an even-par 72 to move her two-day total to 4-over 148. She improved upon her day one score by four strokes and posted a round that featured birdies on the par-4 sixth, the par-3 seventh and concluded the day with one on the par-5 18th.
Following her was freshman Rino Sasaki who's 3-over 75 on Saturday pushed her into a tie for 44th at 6-over 150 (75-75). She matched her day one score after bookending her round with birdies on holes one and 18. Junior Sarah Rhee finished just one stroke behind her at 4-over 76 to move her to a tie for 54th at 7-over 151. Rhee started the day going one-under through her first four holes but a pair of back-to-back blemishes brought her back to 2-over. She added two more bogeys on the back-nine to finish at 4-over.
Junior Wenyung Keh's front nine was slightly rough as she went 5-over before making the turn but following a clean even par back nine she finished at 5-over 77 to move her two-day total to 10-over 154 (77-77). Keh has gone even par on the back nine in both rounds and is tied for 77th heading into Sunday's round. Fellow junior teammate Julianne Alvarez is tied for 98th following her 6-over 78 that moved her to 13-over 157 (79-78).
Washington tees off on moving day at 6:36 a.m. PT on Sunday from hole 10 and will be paired with Louisville and Furman. UCLA leads the team field at 2-under 573.
