Huskies Complete Third Straight Pac-12 Series Sweep With 2-1 Win
April 08, 2018 | Softball
SEATTLE – The #1 Washington Huskies defeated Utah 2-1 Sunday, completing their third consecutive series sweep and taking sole possession of first place in the Pac-12. Noelle Hee hit a two-run home run to account for all Washington's scoring in the game. The Huskies are 39-2 on the year now and 10-2 in the Pac-12.
Taran Alvelo earned her 20th win of the season, allowing one run on two hits in the game. Utah finished the series with three hits over three games and just five total baserunners. Alvelo struck out seven in the game and only allowed two runners to reach scoring position.
Utah scored first in the game on the first of its two hits. After an HBP put a runner on, who advanced via a groundout, a Utah single to right made it 1-0 in the fourth.
Amirah Milloy led off the fifth inning with a searing, line-drive double high off the centerfield wall. Hee's home run one batter later put the Huskies on top for good. Hee hit her fifth homer of the year to dead center into the teeth of the wind and still dropped it beyond the bleachers, out of the ballpark.
Alvelo only allowed one baserunner in the game's final three innings, a single in the sixth. Utah would steal second, but Alvelo forced a short flyout and a half-swing foulout to end the inning and kill Utah's last chance at tying the game.
