TUCSON, Ariz. – Despite dropping a few sets, No. 50 Washington women's tennis came up big when needed to take the 4-1 win at Arizona on Friday afternoon.
The Dawgs (13-8, 3-3 Pac-12) came away with the doubles point to start the match. No. 24 Miki Kobayashi and Vanessa Wong took care of business at No. 1 singles, winning 6-2. However, the Wildcats won on court two, 6-2. It was up to Stacey Fung and Katarina Kopcalic at No. 3 doubles, and they came through for the Huskies, taking the set 6-3.
In singles, Fung and Kobayashi both got to work early. At No. 1 singles, No. 21 Fung won in two sets, 6-1, 6-0, never trailing. Kobayashi also won in two sets, taking the match 6-2, 6-3, on court three.
Arizona earned one point in the dual match by winning on court four. Alexis Prokopuik struggled, falling in two sets, 6-4, 6-2. The Wildcats also won sets on courts two and five, both matches that did not finish.
Kopcalic clinched the match for Washington at No. 6 singles. The first set was close, the two trading games for most of it until the sophomore pulled away to win 6-4. The second set started the same as the first until Kopcalic made another run to win 6-3, sealing the match.

"I think the team played well today," Kopcalic said. "Maybe it wasn't our best tennis because the conditions were tough with the heat and the wind, but I think we all did a good job adjusting and I'm glad we got the win. I'm happy to have clinched the doubles and singles. I'm just having fun out there and focusing on what I need to do. Hopefully we can do it again tomorrow."
The road trip continues with a match at Arizona State on Saturday at 12 p.m. PT. A link for the live stream can be found on the women's tennis schedule page.FINAL
