UW Swept 4-0 At No. 4 Stanford
April 21, 2018 | Men's Tennis
STANFORD, Calif. – In the last match of the regular season, Washington men's tennis could not bounce back from Friday's loss, falling 4-0 at No. 4 Stanford on Saturday.
Stanford took control of the match from the start. The No. 2 doubles pair of Jack Davis and Mitch Stewart was swept 6-0. The set on court one was a battle, needing extra games to determine a winner. However, Enzo Sommer and Kawika Lam fell short, dropping the set 7-5.
The first three courts in singles were close, two of the three matches going to a third set. However, none of those matches finished. Jake Douglas won his first set, 6-4, but trailed 5-4 in the second when the match was called.
Similar to his fellow senior, Mitch Stewart took it 6-3 at No. 2 singles to start, but dropped the second 6-1 to go to a third. He was down 3-1 when their court stopped.
Enzo Sommer on court three struggled to start, losing 6-1 in the first. But he bounced back to win 6-2 in the second. He was losing 4-2 in the third when the match was called.
The Huskies at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles all lost in two sets. Jack Davis competed to keep in close in his second set on court five, but he still dropped the match, 6-3, 6-4.
The Dawgs will compete in the Pac-12 Tennis Championships next week. Check back to GoHuskies.com for updated matchup and viewing information.
