UW Swept 4-0 at No. 13 UCLA
March 25, 2018 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES – In the second match in two days, No. 47 Washington women's tennis was swept by No. 13 UCLA 4-0 after struggling in both singles and doubles.
The Bruins (12-4) won the doubles point after dominating the sets on courts two and three, 6-1 and 6-0, respectively. Miki Kobayashi and Vanessa Wong were keeping it close at No.1 doubles, but the point was clinched before they could finish their set, ending it down 4-3.
In singles, Washington dropped the matches at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles, all in two sets. All three of those matches also saw UCLA sweeping the second sets, 6-0. The match was clinched with those three Bruin wins.
With Stacey Fung sitting on the sidelines during singles after her injury from Saturday, freshman Vanessa Wong played No. 1 singles. She won the first set 6-3 over No. 13 Ena Shibahara and was tied 2-2 when the dual-match was called. The other two matches that were unfinished saw UCLA taking the first sets.
Washington is back home next weekend with more Pac-12 matches. UW will host Colorado on Friday and Utah on Sunday.
