Washington Blanks Bryant 7-0 In Midweek Game
March 14, 2018 | Softball
SEATTLE – In their final tune-up before conference play, the #1 Washington Huskies shutout the Bryant Bulldogs 7-0 at Husky Softball Stadium Wednesday night. Washington was carried to the win by two big innings, scoring four runs in the third and three more in the sixth.
Kristin Cochran had one of the best starts of her career, allowing only two hits in six shutout innings. Just two Bulldogs managed hits off Cochran, who retired seven in a row following a first-inning walk.
Kelly Burdick was a big part of all Washington's offense, starting both scoring innings with hits. Burdick bounced a single through the middle for the ballgame's first hit in the third, then trotted home one pitch later when Taylor Van Zee blasted a home run to dead centerfield to make it 2-0.
Burdick would end up reaching base in all three of her at-bats, with two singles and reaching on an error in the fourth. She would come around to score in the sixth after her second single, making it 5-0 when Sis Bates' roped a single to center. Bates also scored a run earlier in the game when Kirstyn Thomas singled her home following Bates' double over the centerfielder's head in the third.
Maggie Gallagher had her second two-hit game of the year, driving in runs with each of her hits. The sophomore brought Thomas home in the third with a booming double off the leftfield wall, then beat out a grounder in the sixth to make the final margin 7-0.
