
Huskies Suffer First Loss Of Season 2-0 To Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – The #1 Washington Huskies fell 2-0 to the #10 Arizona State Sun Devils in a hard-fought road battle Saturday, taking their first loss of the season. Arizona State scored twice in the first inning for the game's only runs. Washington is now 28-1 on the season, while Arizona State improves to 23-3.
Gabbie Plain took the loss in the game despite an outstanding display in the circle. The freshman retired eight straight to end the game and allowed only four hits. She is now 9-1 on the year.
Taylor Van Zee had two of Washington's three hits in the game, leading off the game with a single. Van Zee would also single in the fifth after Kelly Burdick beat out an infield hit, only to have Burdick thrown out trying to take third.
The Huskies put two runners on in the second inning with walks by Emma Helm and Trysten Melhart, but those runners would be stranded.

- Plain (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 K) had her scoreless streak end after 28.2 innings. She has now had scoreless streaks of 28.2 innings and 13.0 innings this season.
- The first-inning double was just the second extra-base hit allowed by Plain in her collegiate career.
- This was the first time Huskies have trailed for multiple innings in a game this season.
- Burdick (1x2) extended her career-best eight-game hitting streak. Her previous best was a six-game streak, set May 11-21, 2017.
- Van Zee (2x3) is hitting .500 when leading off a game, with three doubles and two home runs, after today's leadoff single.
