Riley Wins Bars But Washington Nipped By Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The #15 Washington GymDawgs had an impressive road performance but fell to the #3 Utah Utes Saturday, 197.700-196.250 . Monica Riley's bars routine earned the highest individual score of any GymDawg, winning the event title with a score of 9.9. Hailey Burleson recorded a 39.350 in the all-around thanks in part to scores of 9.875 on floor and 9.850 on bars and beam.
"There were a lot of great things about our meet," said head coach Elise Ray-Statz. "Malory Rose being up in the beam lineup, Hailey Burleson earning a season-best all-around score, Monica Riley earning a career best on bars... but as an entire team we need to get better and elevate our performance in competition. I'm excited to get back in the gym and work towards that."
Joslyn Goings also had her highest score of the season, coming on beam. The senior earned a score of 9.850, adding to the growing number of 9.850 scores achieved on beam this season. Evanni Roberson scored a 9.850 on floor and earned a 39.125 in the all-around.
Event Recaps
Vault, 48.950 – The GymDawgs had a team score of 48.950 on vault, making it two weeks in a row they have recorded identical event totals. Haley Roy's score of 9.825 led the team, followed by Riley's score of 9.800. Roy has now had a score of at least 9.800 on vault in every competition this season.
Bars, 49.150 – Washington had its third straight competition with a bars score over 49.000, hitting 49.150 today. Riley continued her weekly improvements with a career-high score of 9.900. Burleson wrapped up the rotation with a score of 9.850, her season high thus far. Michaela Nelson had a score of 9.825, while Madison Copiak had a score of 9.800.
Beam, 49.000 – The GymDawgs closed out the competition with a strong showing on beam, with Burleson wrapping up the final routine with a score of 9.850. Goings also had a score of 9.850, her highest score of the season. Roberson earned a score of 9.825 on beam as well.
Floor, 49.150 – Led by Burleson's score of 9.875, the GymDawgs had a team score of 49.150. Roberson earned a score of 9.850, her best floor score of the season. Kristyn Hoffa and Maya Washington each had scores of 9.825 for the GymDawgs.
