GymDawgs Break 197 Against Oregon State
February 10, 2018 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – The No. 16-ranked Washington GymDawgs broke the 197-point plateau for the first time this season, scoring an even 197.000 to beat No. 11 Oregon State (196.500) Saturday at Alaska Airlines Arena.
The meet was easily the most closely contested of the season for the Huskies, who led by a score of 147.625-147.575 after the first three rotations, after having been similarly tight through each of the first two events.
The GymDawgs' team score was their best of the season, with their previous best score of 196.575 set two weeks earlier. Last year's UW team, which finished eighth in the nation, scored a 197.000 or better just twice.
"I am so proud of this team," said head coach Elise Ray-Statz. "We pushed them hard last week to take this step forward and they truly rose to the occasion. This past home meet was my favorite so far this season not because of the score but because of the look in the team's eyes before they started: they were on a mission."
Senior Haley Burleson took first place in the all-around with a season-high score of 39.450. Teammate Evanni Roberson was second, with a score of 39.375. Both played a key role in giving Washington the win as each scored a 9.900 on floor, to lift the GymDawgs to the final score 197.000.

Monica Riley tied her season high and Kristyn Hoffa set a new one – both with scores of 9.825 – to share third place.
Bars, 49.200 – Riley won the bars event title with a score of 9.900, tying her career high for the win. Madison Copiak tied for second place with a score 9.850 while the UW had two gymnasts – Evanni Roberson and Maya Washington – score a 9.825. Washington's score of 49.350 on beam was easily its best of the year, and was its second-best rotation score on any event all season at that point.
