Huskies Sweep Lamar In Doubleheader
February 19, 2018 | Softball
BEAUMONT, Texas – The #4 Washington Huskies improved to 12-0 on the season with an 8-0 win over the Lamar Cardinals, sweeping the Monday doubleheader. Taylor Van Zee scored three runs and drove in three as well, while Sis Bates and Kirstyn Thomas each had multi-hit games.
Gabbie Plain moved to 4-0 on the season, striking out a career-best eight batters in the game, including striking out the side in the fifth. Plain allowed only three hits and has now won every one of her collegiate starts.
Thomas started the scoring with her RBI single in the first, giving her four RBI on the day after she drove in three in the early game. Thomas would come around to score later in the inning after Julia DePonte singled.
Trysten Melhart drove in another run in the second, giving her two RBI in two games today. Melhart used her speed to beat out an infield hit, then scored herself when Van Zee homered one batter later to make it a 6-0 game.
After three scoreless innings, the Huskies wrapped up the game in the sixth, scoring twice to end the game via run rule. DePonte had a sacrifice fly to make it four consecutive games with an RBI, then a wild pitch scored Bates.
Kristin Cochran would come on to face the final two batters on the game. The senior made quick work of Lamar as the Huskies picked up their 12th win.
