Huskies Sign Four For 2019
November 14, 2018 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies announced the signing of four freshmen for the 2019 season today, bringing in multiple nationally-ranked players to add to the squad. The Huskies signed Margaux Clarke, Ally Remington, Helena Reischling, and Thao Nguyen. Those four will join a team in 2019 that returns ten goal-scorers from the 2018 season, including four of its top five scorers.
"When it's all said and done, this incoming group will be a great addition to our large group of returners," said Lesle Gallimore. "Our expectation is that this group will have an immediate impact in helping our program return to the NCAA Tournament."
A California native, Margaux Clarke joins the Huskies after a stellar club career with Lamorinda DA. Clarke won the NorCal Premier League three times and added a Surf Cup title in 2016. She is the nation's 58th-ranked recruit and 17th-ranked forward.
"Margaux is a strong, powerful and high energy player," said Gallimore. "We feel she has the ability to play multiple positions and will be able to help in our ability to build with numbers going forward. She is quick and intense in transition and will create opportunities for our team with her ability to make the opponents turn the ball over through her relentless pressure and high work rate."
Ally Remington made her debut in the Canadian youth program as a 15-year-old and has continued to excel in her youth career. She has been a part of multiple Team Canada youth camps, including the U17 Western ID Camp and the National U15 Futures Camp in 2017. In 2016 and 2017, Remington won bronze medals at the Calgary Southwest United Club Provincial Games and a gold medal at the Alberta Summer Games. She has been on Team Alberta for four straight years and is a part of the Whitecaps Girls Elite Canada Super REX Centre.
Gallimore had high praise for Remington, saying that "Ally is a technically and tactically savvy player that will add great competition to our central midfield depth. She is good in the air and has very good playmaking ability from the middle of the pitch. She's a worker with a great engine and passion for the game."
Helena Reischling, the ninth-ranked recruit in the Pacific Northwest, spent her club career playing for Crossfire Premier SC and played high school soccer with Seattle Prep. She earned her way to the High School All-American Game in 2018 as part of the West All-American Team and, at the 2017 national championships, took second with her ECNL team. Reischling also was named to TopDrawer Soccer's U17 Best XI in the 2017 ECNL playoffs. As a senior at Seattle Prep, Reischling scored 14 goals and added 18 assists in 17 games. She also won a state championship during her high school years, helping Seattle Prep complete an undefeated season in 2015.
"Helena can get up and down the flanks extremely well; she is a good one-on-one defender, reads the game well, and provides great support in the attack," said Gallimore. "Her service from wide areas is dangerous and she can beat opponents on the dribble. She'll provide a great dynamic on both sides of the ball for our team."
Thao Nguyen comes to Washington with SPSL Offensive Player of the Year and SPSL MVP awards under her belt. She scored 46 goals in her first three years of high school soccer at Lindbergh High School and has been named All-State each of the last two seasons. In her club play with Northwest Soccer Club, Nguyen won a state championship in 2017.
Gallimore praised Nguyen for her "sophistication and knack for improvisation to the game. She can be a handful for opponents to defend and our expectation is that she'll have an impact for our team in the final third, whether scoring herself or creating for others. We look forward to watching her develop into a premiere attacking player in our conference."
Washington's newcomers will join next year's roster as the Huskies look to fight their way back into the NCAA Tournament.
