MAUI – The University of Washington men's golf team closed out its fall season with a 13th-place tie at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic on Sunday posting a three-day score of 3-over 855 (285-292-278). The Huskies saved their best round for last finishing with a 6-under 278 thanks to four players finishing under par.
"We definitely had a better showing out there today, and I was pleased with how they came out ready to play," said head coach Alan Murray. "We learned a lot about our young team during these five fall tournaments against some really high level competition. We'll spend the next couple of months re-focusing and working on just getting better. If we want to compete at the top level, we need to continue to improve at each practice and get ready for the spring."
UW's top finisher was sophomore Noah Woolsey who used a 5-under 66 to climb 28 spots up the leaderboard placing tied for 33rd at 3-under 210 (70-74-66). Woolsey got to 4-under after making birdie on four of his first nine holes. Despite one bogey on his 10th, the sophomore closed out the round adding two more birdies en route to his 5-under. It was Woolsey's best round of the fall season.
Competing as an individual for UW and also carding a 3-under 210 (68-73-69) was sophomore Shamu Bodhidatta. His final round saw him post a 2-under 69 for his second sub-70 round of the tournament. Bodhidatta knocked in three birdies, two of which came on par-3's, and had just one blemish on his scorecard en route to the 2-under and his best three-round score of the season.
Washington's next score that counted toward the team total was freshman Paul Margolis who tied for 64th with a 3-over 216 (73-71-72). His 1-over 72 during Sunday's round saw him get to two-over after his first five holes, but Margolis wasn't shaken as he went on to post two birdies with just one more error to close the round.
Junior Henry Lee's final round put him tied for 71st at 4-over 217 (72-71-74). Sophomore Jan Schneider made moves on Sunday, posting his best score of the tournament to climb 16 spots, also finishing tied for 71st with a 4-over 217 (71-76-70). Freshman Robert Moran was just one stroke behind him at 5-over 218 (72-76-70). Moran also saved his best round for last as he improved upon his round two score by six strokes.
The Huskies will now take a break before the spring season, which starts January 28 at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
