November 03, 2018 | Men's Golf
MAUI – The University of Washington men's golf team wrapped up day two of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic Saturday in 15th place with a two-round score of 9-over 577 (285-292). The third and final round of the Huskies last fall tournament tees off at 11:30 a.m. PT on Sunday as UW will be paired with Wyoming, Houston and Hawaii.
"Today wasn't what we were hoping for after yesterday's round," said head coach Alan Murray. "We struggled with the tougher conditions but we at least have one more round to close out our fall season and hopefully we'll come out with a better result. I thought Paul and Henry stepped it up a little today and Padraic had another solid round. Just have to get back out there tomorrow and see what we can do."
Jumping seven spots up the leaderboard during round two was freshman Padraic Sim, who is competing as an individual in this event. He carded an even-par 71 to move his two-day total to 2-under 140 (69-71) which is tied for 27th. Sim's round saw him string together four-straight birdies at one point putting him at 3-under heading into his final nine holes. He was brought back to even par due to back to back errors and even though he birdied once more, he bogeyed his second to last hole to keep him at even on the day.
Following him just one stroke back was sophomore Shamu Bodhidatta, also playing as an individual, who's 2-over 73 on Saturday put him in a tie for 32nd at 1-under 141 (68-73). In the UW team lineup, the Huskies saw junior Henry Lee climb 23 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 48th as he went even-par 71 for a 1-over 143 (72-71) scorecard. Lee's round was highlighted by five birdies including three over his final six holes to bring him back to even par.
Sophomore Noah Woolsey posted a 3-over 74 to put him tied for 61st at 2-over 144 while freshman Paul Margolis improved upon his round one score by two strokes to jump him 23 spots up into a tie for 61st as well. Margolis carded an even-par 71 pushing him to 2-over 144 overall. Margolis err' d on just three holes and countered that with three birdies on the day for his even score.
Rounding out UW's lineup was sophomore Jan Schneider who is tied for 87th with a 5-over 147 (71-76) and freshman Robert Moran who carded a 5-over 76 to move to 6-over 148 (72-76), tying for 92nd.
