November 28, 2018 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE – Washington men's tennis head coach Matt Anger welcomes three players who have signed with the Huskies for 2019. The trio of Huskies coming to Montlake next fall include Stevie Gould, Brandon Wong and Kailuhia Lam.

Gould is a five-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net out of Corte Madera, Calif. Gould attends Redwood High School and is ranked as the 32nd recruit in the nation. In May, Gould earned a USTA National Level 2 Doubles Championship in Stockton, Calif. as well as reaching the semifinals of singles play. In October, Gould reached the singles semifinals of the USTA National Level 2 Tournament in Hawaii. Most recently, he reached the Round of 16 in the USTA Boys 18 National Indoor Championships in November in Overland Park, Kansas.
"I am thrilled that Stevie has signed with us," said head coach Matt Anger. "Most incoming players need to add strength when they come in, but Stevie is ready physically right now. He is a lefty with a fantastic work ethic with his best tennis ahead of him."

Wong is a five-star recruit from Mercer Island, Washington. Wong is the top ranked player in the state of Washington as well as the northwest region. He is the 37th ranked player and holds the 24th spot in the Dunlop RPI according to TennisRecruiting.net. He holds a 8-1 record against 4-star players and a 3-2 record against 5-stars. He reached the singles finals of the Junior Sectionals Level 3 Tournament in Yakima in June as well as the semifinals in doubles play. In January, Wong reached the singles quarterfinals of the Boys 18 USTA National Level 3 Tournament in Surprise, Ariz. Wong earned a trip to the semifinals of the Boys 18 USTA National Level 3 Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. in April.
"I admit, that I was going to be down if Brandon didn't sign with us," said Anger on Wong. "Of the players from our region, he seems to be the one that is continuing to improve at a fast rate. He and Stevie already know each other and can't wait to get started."

Lam is from Honolulu, Hawaii and he is the second ranked player out of the state of Hawaii. Lam is the younger brother of current Husky Kawika Lam. In June he won the Boys 16-18 Hawaii State Championships in doubles play as well as reaching the finals in singles action. In August, Lam won the Wailuku Labor Day Jr. Open.
"Hia Lam is unique in that his doubles play is ahead of his singles play," said Anger. "His older brother, Kawika, has been a solid doubles started for us and I expect Hia to be able to step right in as well. He will jump up right away with the daily work he will get here compared to the competition in Hawaii."
