2019 Schedule Set For Huskies
October 23, 2018 | Softball
SEATTLE - After finish second in the country in 2018, the Washington Huskies have announced their 2019 schedule, revealing the road ahead to a third-straight Women's College World Series trip. Washington will travel to Mexico to begin the year on February 8. Washington's annual Husky Classic, the first home action for the Huskies, will begin on March 8.
The Huskies will play 22 different teams that made at least NCAA Regionals last year, including four of the seven other WCWS teams. Washington will face just three teams all year that had a losing record in 2018: in all, Washington's opponents carried a .641 winning percentage. Only one non-conference foe had a losing record last year, with the Huskies' non-conference foes finishing 16 games above .500 on average.
The season will begin at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, beginning on February 8 against North Carolina. Washington will play 2018 NCAA Regionals participants Notre Dame, Liberty, Baylor, Mississippi State, and North Dakota State there, as well as Super Regionals participant Arkansas. In all, Washington will play nine games in their two weeks in Mexico.
Next up will be the Mary Nutter Classic for Washington in Palm Springs, California. Once there, Washington will play Cal Poly, Kentucky, Missouri, CSU Fullerton, Northwestern, and Long Beach State. Four of those six teams made NCAA Regionals last year, with Kentucky advancing to Super Regionals. That tournament will begin February 22.
Washington's final non-conference road tournament will be the Judi Garman Classic, beginning on March 1. The Huskies will begin that tournament with games against Auburn and 2018 WCWS participant Florida, followed up by games against Fresno State, Michigan, and CSU Fullerton. Auburn and Michigan also made NCAA Regionals in 2018.
The first home games of the year will begin on March 8 at the Husky Classic. Washington will play host to Ohio State, Northern Illinois, Idaho State, and Seattle U at the annual tournament. The Huskies will play NIU and Idaho State twice that weekend.
Washington begins Pac-12 play hosting fellow 2018 WCWS team UCLA on March 15-17. UCLA also advanced to the semifinals of the WCWS in 2018, falling to Florida State before Washington faced off with the Seminoles in the championship round.
The Huskies will take on 2018 WCWS team Oregon (March 23-25), California (April 5-7), Utah (April 18-20), and Arizona (May 3-5) on the road in Pac-12 play.
After a Wednesday, March 27 matchup with Cal Poly, the Huskies will return home, hosting Oregon State on March 29-31. Washington swept Oregon State in Corvallis last year. The Huskies will also host 2018 WCWS participant Arizona State, taking on the Sun Devils in a three-game series April 12-14.
The final non-conference game of the regular season for Washington will be April 17. The Huskies will head to Provo, Utah to play BYU, which won the WCC last year and reached NCAA Regionals.
Washington's regular season will wrap up as they host Stanford from May 9-11.
