STANFORD – The University of Washington recorded its third top five finish of the season as it carded an 8-over 860 (296-275-289) over the three-day Stanford Intercollegiate to finish fourth overall. The Dawgs were led by two seniors who posted top-10 showings in Julianne Alvarez (T5th) and Wenyung Keh (T8th).
"I was really proud of how our team continued to play at a high level energy wise today," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "Julianne and Wenyung once again just stayed steady and consistent and it was great to see them both finish in the top 10 in that tough of a field. Overall, I've been really pleased with the growth I've seen with this team in our first three tournaments and can't wait to get back out there and compete again."
Alvarez continued her stellar play on the weekend as she went 1-under during Sunday's round en route to her three-day total of 4-under 2009 (72-67-70). Over the whole event, she knocked in 12 birdies as she earned her second top 10 showing and her second-straight finish in the top 10. She stayed at even par for most of the final 18 mixing birdies with blemishes but went on to close her final three holes at 1-under.
She was joined by Keh in the top 10 as the New Zealand senior matched her round two score of 3-under 68 to help her climb five spots up on the leaderboard into the tie for eighth. Overall she finished with a 3-under 210 (74-68-68). Keh got to three under following three-straight birdies on holes 10, 11 and 12 but followed that with two bogeys over her next six holes. Like Alvarez, Keh closed strong posting birdies on back to back holes to close out at 3-under. It is Keh's second-straight top 10 showing and she has yet to finish outside of the top 12 this season.
Following her down the leaderboard was senior Sarah Rhee who tied for 13th with a 1-over 214 (73-67-74). Rhee's highest scoring round of the event unfortunately came during Sunday's 18 but thanks to her play earlier in the weekend she was able to only fall five spots in to the 13th place tie. Rhee has yet to finish below 13th this season.
Freshman Martha Lewis was UW's next finisher as she would go onto tie for 63rd with a 13-over 226 (77-73-76) while junior Alice Duan who tied for 74th at 19-over 232 (78-75-79).
Washington next hits the links Nov. 5-7 at the annual Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Course in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
