
Huskies Open 2017-18 Season at Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Washington women's golf team opens its 2017-18 fall campaign this weekend at the Schooner Fall Classic hosted by the University of Oklahoma. The three-day event, hosted in partnership with the Toby Keith Foundation, will be played at the Belmar Golf Club, which will be set at par-72 and 6,046 yards.
Monday's final round will be televised live on Fox College Sports Pacific from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. PT. Sooner Sports TV personality Chad McKee will provide play-by-play during the round, while former LPGA pro Stephanie Brecht and former OU golfer Kaitlyn Rohrback will serve as analysts.
THE FIELD: Washington will be joined by 14 other teams: No. 4 Alabama, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 18 Texas A&M, No. 20 Florida State, Baylor, Central Florida, Clemson, Florida, Miami, Mississippi State, Texas, Texas State and Tulsa.
THE LINEUP: The Huskies will send sophomore Eunwon Park, sophomore Karen Miyamoto, junior Sarah Rhee, freshman Rino Sasako and sophomore Ellen Takada and will be paired with Clemson and Texas.
FALL SCHEDULE: Washington will compete in four fall tournaments along with hosting one event before spring play starts. Following the Schooner Fall Classic, UW will host the Edean Ihlanfeld, Oct. 10-11, followed by the Stanford Intercollegiate, Oct. 16-18. The Dawgs will wrap up fall play Oct. 23-24 at the Pac-12 Preview played at Nanea Golf Club in Hawaii.
THE EDEAN IHLANFELDT RETURNS: For the first time since the 2015-16 season, Washington will host the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Golf Club in Sammamish, Wash. The 54-hole event will be played Tuesday, Oct. 10-Wednesday, Oct. 11 with 36 holes on day one followed by 18 for the final round. The event honors the legendary UW women's golf coach that started the Husky program in 1974.
LAST SEASON RESULTS: Featuring a lineup of three sophomores and two freshmen, Washington posted four top five finishes a year ago along with finishing eighth at the NCAA Albuquerque Regionals. Wenyung Keh led the team with a 74.73 stroke average, followed by Julianne Alvarez (74.91) and Karen Miyamoto (75.63).
SUMMER STANDOUTS: Washington's student-athletes had a busy summer, competing in many amateur events. Junior Julianne Alvarez won two events, the Washington State Golf Association Women's Amateur Championship and the Pacific Northwest Women's Amateur Championship. She, along with Karen Miyamoto and Sarah Rhee, also qualified for the 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. Miyamoto and Rhee each made the Round of 16 in San Diego.
