THIS WEEK: SERIES AGAINST UCLAΒ
The No. 10/10 Huskies (27-8, 4-5 Pac-12) will host Oregon State University this weekend at Husky Softball Stadium. The teams will begin the series on Friday, April 7 at 5 p.m. On Saturday, April 8 at 3 p.m. the teams will meet again. The Pac-12 rivals will conclude their series on Sunday, April 9 at 5 p.m. All three games will be aired on the Pac-12 Network. Mike Brown will provide live radio through GoHuskies.com for Friday's and Sunday's games. The teams have 59-20 all-time series record, led by the Huskies.Β
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Washington Huskies are coming off a 1-2 series against at the time No. 13 UCLA. The Huskies fell in games one and two but came out on top in game three for a 12-7 win. Ali Aguilar and Casey Stangel each hit two home runs apiece in Sunday's game, combining for nine RBIs. Taylor Van Zee also hit a home run in the series. The Huskies had a total batting average of .352 and 22 runs off 32 hits. Taran Alvelo, Madi Schreyer and Sam Manti each had time in the circle for Washington, combining for seven strikeouts in 21 innings.Β

>> Β Β Β Β Β Sophomore ace Taran Alvelo (16-4) threw a three-hitter against No. 7 Minnesota and didn't give up a single run and allowed only three hits over five innings. The three hits marked the fewest for Minnesota this season.
>> Β Β Β Β Β During the team's second game against Arizona State, freshman pitcher Samantha Manti earned a career high nine strikeouts. She started back-to-back games in the double header, pitching ten innings, ten strikeouts and giving up only six hits.Β
>> Β Β Β Β Β Morganne Flores hit four home runs in five at bats in the Husky Classic. The sophomore catcher totaled for eight runs, nine hits and 12 RBIs on the weekend. Flores leads the team in home runs with eight.
>> Β Β Β Β Β Morganne Flores led the team in RBIs against Arizona State with five. She currently leads the team in total RBIs with 39 on the season.Β
>> Β Β Β Β Β Last weekend against UCLA, Casey Stangel went 4-for-4 on Sunday and 5-for-9 on the weekend. On Sunday she was one triple away from hitting for the cycle after blasting two home runs, one singe and one double.Β
>> Β Β Β Β Β Freshman Sis Bates currently leads the team in hits with 40. Casey Stangel is right behing Bates with 39 hits on the season.
>> Β Β Β Β Β Bates also leads the team in triples (4). The freshman stud currently holds a .385 batting average and a .422 on base percentage.
>> Β Β Β Β Β The team returns 15 student-athletes and five freshman in the 2017. The freshmen include: Sis Bates, Maggie Gallagher, Kaija Gibson, Samantha Manti and Alyssa Simons.
>> Β Β Β Β Β Key returners for the Huskies include: Ali Aguilar, Casey Stangel, Taylor Van Zee, Trysten Melhart, Kelly Burdick, Madi Schreyer, Julia DePonte, Taran Alvelo and Morganne Flores.
>> Β Β Β Β Β The Huskies are coming off a run in the post-season in 2016 where the team ended the season at Super Regionals against Alabama. Last season marked the program's 13th Super Regional appearance and 24th appearance in the post season overall.
>> Β Β Β Β Β Washington is led-off at the plate by All-American Ali Aguilar, who returns for her final season. Aguilar is currently ranked seventh in program history for most runs scored with 177, eighth for RBI's with 168 and sixth for doubles with 46. Last season, Aguilar recorded 21 home runs, the fourth most for one season in program history.
>> Β Β Β Β Β Juniors Julia DePonte and Taylor Van Zee also return to the lineup as power hitters for the Dawgs. Last season Van Zee totaled 16 doubles and DePonte recorded four triples.
THIS TIME LAST YEAR
In 2016 the team was 23-8 heading into the fourth week of conference play. The team opened 2016 Pac-12 play with a series against Oregon where they were swept. The following week they faced UCLA and won the series with two wins to UCLA's one. They also went 2-1 against Arizona. The team had beat eight top-25 ranked teams at the time, including No. 2 Michigan.Β
WHAT'S GOING ON THIS WEEKEND
Friday's game at 5 p.m. will be faculty and Staff Appreciation Day. The first 200 Faculty/Staff members will get free admission, plus two guests each. Saturday's 3 p.m. game will be camper Reunion Day. Campers from past Husky camps wearing their shirts will get $1 admission. Sunday's game will be Pups and Parents Day. Members of the Pups and Parents group were sent tickets ahead of time.
COACH TARR TO USWNT
USA Softball announced Monday the complete coaching staff for the USA Softball Women's National Team and Washington head coach, Heather Tarr's name was on that list. Tarr and four other current NCAA collegiate coaches were selected from the USA Softball WNT Coaching Pool and will lead the members of the 2017 Women's National Team as they compete around the country this summer.
RED, WHITE AND BLUE
Sis Bates and Ali Aguilar will represent the United State this summer on the Junior Women's National Team (Bates) and the Women's National Team (Aguilar). Aguilar played with the National Team last summer after being called up from the Elite Team. She helped the team to a gold medal in the WBSC XV Women's World Softball Championship. The duo will report to their respective teams following the college season.
CLOSER LOOK: OSU
The Beavers are currently 18-15 overall and 1-5 in the conference. They are coming off a non-conference series sweep against UNLV after winning two games, 9-2 and 9-0 (5). The Beavers are led at the plate by shortstop McKenna Arriola with a .391 average. In the circle the team is led by Nerissa Easton with a 3.98 ERA.Β

The Huskies lead the all-time series with Oregon State 59-20. L2ast season, Washington went 2-1 against the Beavers in in Corvallis, Ore.
