April 30, 2017 | Men's Golf
BOULDER, Colo. --Sophomore Carl Yuan and senior Corey Pereira both finished in the top-10 as the University of Washington men's golf team tied for third in a shortened 2017 Men's Golf Championships on Sunday (April 30).
The three-day, 72-hole event at Boulder Country Club was trimmed to only 54 holes due to a series of weather delays, including several inches of snow throughout the tournament.
Washington was 24-over through the second round -- which began Friday afternoon and ended Sunday morning after play was resumed after a day-long delay -- before carding 8-over 358 in the final round.
The Huskies (355-369-358) were 32-over as a unit, 17 shots behind defending national champion Oregon and 14 behind Stanford who finished second. Washington, who earned its best finish in the championships since 2014, entered the final day of action just three stokes off the lead.
Yuan finished at 3-over 213 (68-72-73) to tie for a career-best fourth place finish at the championships, seven back of Oregon winner Wyndham Clark. Yuan mixed three birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys during his final round.
Pereira, who now has a team-high eight rounds in the 60s this year, mixed three birdies and three bogeys during his final round. The Cameron Park, Calif. native finished at 4-over 214 (69-75-70) to tie for sixth place, a career-best in the Pac-12 Championships.
Freshman Henry Lee (74-70-72) also had a high overall finish, placing tied for 14th at 6-over 216.
Junior Frank Garber (72-74-72) carded four birdies in the final round to tie for 20th overall at 8-over 218.
Freshman Daniel List placed 60th at 17-over 227 (72-81-74) while senior Kevin Kwon finished tied for 61st at 18-over 228 (79-78-71).
Washington will now await their fate for NCAA Regionals which will be announced Thursday (May 4) at 9 a.m. PT on the Golf Channel and streamed live on the Golf Channel website. 81 teams and 45 individuals will be selected to compete in the six NCAA Men's Regional Championship sites, May 15-17, one of which is hosted by the University of Washington at Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, Wash.
