
Washington Heads To Boulder For Pac-12 Championships

SEATTLE -- The University of Washington men's golf team is headed to Boulder, Colo. to compete in the 58th Annual Pac-12 Conference Golf Championships held at the Boulder Country Club, April 28-30, with play beginning at 6:30 a.m. PT on Friday.
The University of Colorado is the official host of the meet at the BCC, which will have a 7,129-yard, par-70 configuration for the tournament. With the elevation at 5,220 feet, it's the highest for a men's championship in conference history.
Each team has six players with the top five counting toward the team score. The championship will be four rounds (72 holes), with the 72 competitors to play 36 holes on Friday (April 28) and then 18 on Saturday and Sunday.
In 2016, Stanford made it three-straight Pac-12 titles and Oregon brought home the NCAA title. The field at the 2017 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships is poised to feature just as much firepower with five teams ranked in the most recent Golfweek rankings. Washington is ranked No. 39 in the latest Golfweek rankings.
USC, ranked No. 1 in the nation, will come in as the favorite, but the Trojans are one of five Pac-12 teams currently ranked in Golfweek's national top 25. The group also includes three-time defending champion and No. 8 Stanford, No. 10 Oregon, No. 22 Arizona State and No. 25 Colorado.
The tournament will feature five of the nation's top 10 collegiate players in the Golfweek rankings, including Oregon's Wyndham Clark (No. 1), Stanford's McNealy (No. 3), USC's Sean Crocker (No. 4), Oregon's Norman Xiong (No. 8) and Cal's Collin Morikawa (No. 9).
WASHINGTON AT THE PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Washington will be in search of its seventh conference title. The Huskies last won the Pac-12 title in 2010, a second-consecutive championship. Washington also won the Pac-12 title in 1961, 1963, 1988 and 2005. The 2010 team had the best score with the six playing, counting five format with a 72-hole score of 1,383. That team also set conference records for lowest 72-hole total and lowest in relation to par at 57-under. Last season, Washington placed fourth with a 72-hole score of 23-over 1,443. USC has the most all-time victories with 19. Individually, the Huskies have had four Pac-12 medalists: Darren Wallace (2009), Erik Olson (2005), O.D. Vincent (1988) and Clint Names (1961). In addition, the Huskies have had five runner-up's, most recently Cheng-Tsung Pan in 2014.
HUSKY LINEUP
Head coach Alan Murray has experimented with several combinations this season and will go with a lineup of Corey Pereira, Carl Yuan, Henry Lee, Frank Garber, Daniel List and Kevin Kwon for the Pac-12 Championships. Pereira and Yuan will headline the team as Pereira leads the squad with six top-20, five top-10 and three top-5 finishes this season as well as his fourth career win at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. Yuan placed tied for second in the Arizona Intercollegiate and paces the team with a 71.57 scoring average. Lee, who has participated in nine of the team's 11 events this season, is third on the roster with a 72.69 scoring average.
WASHINGTON IN 2016-17
Washington has seven top-5 finishes on the season, including four consecutive. The Huskies placed tied for third on three occasions, at the Gifford Collegiate, Arizona Intercollegiate and Querencia Cabo Collegiate, for its best finish.
