
Huskies Hit The Road To Face Cal & Stanford

SEATTLE – After two straight weekends at home, the Washington women's tennis team will head south to California to continue their Pac-12 schedule, taking on Cal on Friday April 14th at 1:30 p.m., and Stanford on Saturday April 15th at noon.
The Huskies split their two matches at home this past weekend, defeating Arizona on Friday 7-0 before falling in a tight match with No. 36 Arizona State 3-4 on Sunday. Playing on the one and two courts in singles, Stacey Fung and Miki Kobayashi each picked up two ranked wins last weekend, moving them both up to new career-highs in the latest ITA Singles Rankings.
Now at No. 35 in the country, Stacey Fung defeated No. 27 Lauren Marker of Arizona 7-5, 6-3 and No. 61 Kassidy Jump of ASU 6-4, 6-4 for her second and third consecutive victories over ITA ranked opponents. Kobayashi battled out a 7-6(4), 6-0 win against the Wildcats over No. 113 Lauren Corley before defeating 80th ranked Sammi Hampton of ASU 6-3, 7-6(6) and rose to 106th in the latest rankings this week.
On Friday the Dawgs will face the 16th ranked Golden Bears at the Hellman Tennis Complex, who will enter the contest with a 13-3 record (6-1 Pac-12) while riding a six-match win streak. Coached by Amanda Augustus in her 10th season, Cal was last in action in Eugene, Ore., defeating the Ducks in a 4-3 match. In the latest ITA rankings, Cal owns three singles and two doubles rankings, led by junior Karla Popovic, who is currently ranked 12th in the country in singles.
Following their afternoon match on Friday, Washington will make the short trip to take on 10th ranked Stanford Saturday at noon. The Cardinal own a 15-2 (7-0 Pac-12) record with their two losses this season coming to No. 1 Florida in February, and to No. 17 Pepperdine on April 12th. In her 17th season, Lele Forood's team is led on the court by sophomore Melissa Lord, who owns a 22-2 singles record on the year and is currently ranked 20th by the ITA. Lord also owns a ranking in doubles paired with senior Caroline Doyle, sitting at 40th in the country with a 7-2 dual match record. Stanford will host Washington State on Friday before their matchup with the Huskies Saturday.
