Dawgs Wrap Week At Stanford And Texas
April 01, 2017 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – Just a few Huskies were left to end the busy week on the right foot at both the Stanford Invitation and Texas Relays today, but those several Dawgs were up to the task with a couple big makes in the pole vault, some season-bests in the throws, and an impressive heat win on the track.
Stanford Invitation Recap
Matching the thrill of Amy-Eloise Neale's 5,000-meter victory from Friday night at Stanford was going to be tough today, but another Husky did kick to a win at Cobb Track. Redshirt frosh Connor Morello followed up his USC win in the outdoor opener with a win in his 800m heat, running a PR of 1:51.21. Mason Fletcher also ran a 1:53.01 and Jonathon Cantle posted a 1:53.60.
A couple throwers made some big progress today, as freshman Jose Padilla won his flight of the shot put by over three feet, tossing a new PR of 56-2. Then in the hammer throw invite, Carey Campbell had one of his best marks, tossing 191-feet even today on his fourth attempt, less than two feet off his career-best from last year's Pac-12 meet where he finished fourth. Sophomore Katherine Taylor also finished third in her javelin section with a best of 131-3.
Texas Relays Recap
Just three Huskies competed individually on the final day of the Texas Relays with Kennadi Bouyer in the 100-meter dash final and fellow Pac-12 Champions Kristina Owsinski and Elizabeth Quick in the women's pole vault. Sophomore Chase Smith was set to vault as well but withdrew due to an injury issue.
Owsinski and Quick both cleared 13-11 ¼, Quick on a first attempt and Owsinski on her third. That's the second time in two meets that Owsinski has made that exact height, but for Quick it was a new outdoor PR, moving her up the Husky outdoor top-10 list to No. 5. Both had three attempts at 14-5 ¼ but that bar didn't come today.
Bouyer had advanced to the 100m dash final with a wind-aided 11.49 seconds. She finished eighth in the final today, going 11.84 seconds.
The men's 4x400m relay had a strong time of 3:09.66 today but that was unfortunately wiped away due to a disqualification for running out of the lane.
After splitting up this week, it will be a united front the rest of the way for the Huskies, who will next compete at the Mt. SAC Relays in two weeks' time in Walnut, Calif.
