LOS ANGELES – In their conference opener, the No. 32 Washington men's tennis team dropped a tough match to No. 10 UCLA 4-0 today at the Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts.
"UCLA is very solid and were again today," said head coach Matt Anger. "However, I think we can put more pressure on our opponents than we did today."
In doubles on court one, Jake Douglas and Piers Foley were unable to grab the upset in a tough matchup with No. 15 Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu, falling 6-3. On court three, Amit Batta and Gal Hakak dropped a 6-3 match to Ben Goldberg and Maxime Cressy, clinching the doubles point for UCLA. Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer led in their match on court two 4-3, but the match was abandoned.
To start singles both UW and UCLA took first sets on three courts. On court two, Sommer fell to No. 39 Redlicki 6-1, 6-2, with Piers Foley falling to Cressy 6-1, 6-4. The Bruins would eventually clinch the match on court four with a win by Logan Staggs over Hakak 6-3, 6-2.
