March 31, 2017 | Men's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. -- The University of Washington men's golf team shot a second-round 11-over-par 291 on Friday (March 31) to move into fourth in the standings at the par-70 Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
The Huskies sit in fourth place at the 24-team tournament with a 36-hole total of 14-over 574. No. 1 Stanford still has the team lead at 4-over 564 after Friday's round of 8-over. No. 1 USC is in second at 5-over, followed by UNLV in third at 4-over. Washington, who is 10 shots off the lead at 14-over, is in fourth and No. 5 Oregon rounds out the top five at 17-over.
"The course played very tough this morning with cooler temperatures and stronger winds," head coach Alan Murray said. "Overall we are a bit disappointed with how we scored today but I was very pleased with the guys' attitudes and ability to grind. Though it wasn't our best day, we are still in touch of the leaders but need an exceptional day tomorrow. The team is capable of it and we'll strap the helmets on and get after it tomorrow."
Individually, Husky senior Corey Pereira is in a four-way tie for second at 2-under 138. After leading the field with a 4-under 66 in the opening round, Pereira shot 2-over 70 during the second round. There are a total of 126 golfers competing.
Frank Garber is also in the top 10 as he is tied for seventh at an even-par 140 after a second-round 1-over 71.
Carl Yuan is tied for 47th at 8-over after a second-round 4-over, Henry Lee is tied for 62nd at 10-over after a second-round 4-over and senior Kevin Kwon is tied for 83rd at 12-over after a second-round 8-over.
