SEATTLE – After picking up two conference wins last weekend, the No. 35 Washington women's tennis team (13-4) looks to continue to build momentum, hosting No. 20 UCLA on Friday March 31st at 1:30 p.m., and No. 39 USC on Sunday April 2nd at 11 a.m.
Their Friday matchup with the Bruins will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks, the second time the Huskies have hosted a broadcasted match this season.
After beginning their Pac-12 schedule with an incredibly tight loss with Oregon, the Dawgs rebounded on the road last weekend, defeating Utah 4-0 before heading to Boulder, Colo. and taking down the Buffs 5-2. The sophomore duo of Stacey Fung and Kenadi Hance helped lead the team last weekend, combining for three singles victories and teaming up to grab two 6-1 wins in doubles. Moving to 29-13 for her career in doubles at Washington, Hance moved into the top-10 in school history for best winning percentage at .691, good for eighth on the list.
UCLA will bring an 8-5 record to Seattle this Friday, and own the 20th spot in the latest ITA National Team Rankings. The Bruins last played a match on March 17th, grabbing a 4-1 victory of Oregon. Freshman Ena Shibahara has led the way for the team this year, going 29-5 and owning the No. 3 overall national ranking in singles, while sitting at No. 6 in the country in doubles with Jada Hart.
On Sunday the 5-7 Trojans will take on Washington at 11 a.m., but will face Washington State on Friday before heading to Seattle. Junior Gabby Smith has played a majority of the season at the No. 1 position in singles this year, owning a 16-4 record and currently sitting at 20th in the country. The Trojans own four doubles rankings by the ITA, including No. 33 Rianna Valdes and Jessica Failla, and No. 34 Zoe Katz and Smith.
