SEATTLE โ The Washington women's tennis team will continue their tough stretch of road matches this weekend, heading to Moraga, Calif. to face Saint Mary's on Friday February 10th at 2 p.m., and San Diego State on Saturday the 11th at 11 a.m.
The 6-2 Huskies have played six of their eight matches this season on the road, and are coming off two losses to TCU and Baylor. Against the Bears, UW trailed 0-3 but was able to come back and tie the match at 3-3 for the second time this season. Washington would eventually fall in the match with a tough third set loss on court six. Sophomore Kenadi Hance leads the Dawgs with seven dual match wins in singles so far, and picked up her 50th career total win in singles and doubles this past weekend.
Friday's match will be only the third of the season for Saint Mary's, having opened up with two losses to No. 4 Stanford and No. 20 UCLA. The team is coached by Lisa Alipaz who is in her 19th season, and led on the court by senior Jana McCord who finished second on the team in dual match singles wins last season. Washington squared off against Saint Mary's twice last year, picking up a 4-1 win at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Berkeley, Calif., before defeating them 6-1 at home in February.
San Diego State (3-3) was in action at home last weekend, hosting Cal Poly and grabbing a 4-3 win before falling to No. 8 California 7-0. Jana Buth has led the Aztecs this season, grabbing three wins at court one in singles. SDSU is coached by Peter Mattera who is in his 23rd season with the program.
