QUERENCIA, Mexico – The University of Washington men's golf climbed two spots into fourth place after shooting 2-over-par 286 in Monday's second round of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate at the internationally-recognized Querencia Golf Club (par 72, 7,070 yards). The Huskies sit at an even-par 568, 16 shots back of the lead entering Tuesday's final round.

"The course is very unique as there is a fine line between a really good score and a bad score," head coach Alan Murray said. "It's a great challenge and this course and the strong field is a really good test for us."

Senior Corey Pereira played one of the best rounds of the year, carding a 4-under 67 that included an eagle and four birdies, one of which came after a misstep on the 18th hole. Pereira's second round score tied for second-best overall as he climbed into a tie for fourth place.

"Corey shot a lot of high quality shots," Murray said. "He showed maturity to bounce back from a double bogey with a birdie on the next hole."

Sophomore Carl Yuan shot an even-par 71 and had four birdies on the day, upping his total to nine overall.

"Carl had a really gritty even par," Murray said. "He had a tough start like yesterday but showed his toughness and grit to dig deep and respond in the right way."

Freshman Sam Warkentin carded an 1-over 72 and moved up into a tie for 24th while fellow freshman Henry Lee is tied for 42nd after shooting a 5-over 76 on the second day of action.

"Sam had another really solid round and bounced back from an opening double bogey to fire a solid score," Murray said. "He continues to improve and is learning what it takes to compete at this level."

Rounding out Washington's lineup was senior Kevin Kwon who entered the clubhouse at 10-over after his 81 today.

Washington enters Tuesday's final round 16 shots back of No. 10 Oklahoma State (-16), 13 behind No. 19 Texas (-13) and four back of No. 11 Baylor (-4). The Huskies lead No. 18 Wake Forest (+4), No. 1 Vanderbilt (+6), No. 21 Duke (+7), No. 30 Florida State (+12), Houston (+12), No. 5 Georgia (+13), South Florida (+13), No. 26 Arkansas (+15), No. 29 Mississippi (+17), California (+24) and Rice (+35).
