Burleson Wins All-Around, Huskies Take Third In Kentucky Quad
February 25, 2017 | Gymnastics
LEXINGTON, Ky. β The Washington women's gymnastics team scored a 196.450 to take third place in a quad meet against Kentucky, Illinois and NIU Friday evening at the Memorial Coliseum.
Β
Junior Hailey Burleson had another impressive performance in the all-around, scoring a 39.475 β her second highest AA score of the season. She placed in the top-3 on vault (9.875 β T-3rd), beam (9.875 β T-3rd) and floor (9.9 β 2nd).
Β
In total the GymDawgs had five top-3 performances. Joslyn Goings, Monica Riley, and Burleson all scored 9.875s on vault to place third on the event and Kaitlyn Duranczyk continued her dominance on bars, adding another top-3 performance with a second place 9.875.
"There were many impressive routines for us, and much to be proud of," said head coach Elise Ray after the meet.Β "Though in all, we fell short of what we wanted to accomplish in Kentucky. There's a fine line of bringing full effort to a competition yet not trying too hard to control everything. After our season high score last weekend, the team wanted nothing more than to do it again. Instead of letting their preparation naturally come through, they competed a little rigid, leading to many small errors. We're already hungry for the next competition."
Kentucky and Illinois tied for first place on the night, each scoring a 196.625. Northern Illinois scored a 193.800 to round out the competition.
