
Men's Golf Tied For 10th At John A. Burns Intercollegiate

LIHUE, Hawaii -- The University of Washington men's golf team climbed three spots in a tie for 10th place at the end of day two of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii. The team is tied with UTEP after firing a second round of 286. The Huskies tallied 4-over-par 580 (294-286) entering the final round tomorrow morning.
No. 9 Virginia still leads the field at 25-under-par 551 (268-283).
"The team did a lot of things really well today and it was a very encouraging round," said head coach Alan Murray. "If we tidy up on a few things, I believe we have a really low round in us. We're looking forward to tomorrow."
Washington recorded three eagles on the day and shaved eight strokes off yesterday's round.
Sophomore Carl Yuan jumped to the top of Washington's scorecard after firing a 4-under 68 to lead the team. The Orlando, Fla. native carded four birdies, including a stretch of three consecutive followed by an eagle on the par 5 hole 13. He currently sits in a tie for 22nd.
Freshman Henry Lee also made a nice recovery on the day, recording a 2-under 70, a four-shot improvement. Lee enters the final day of play in a tie for 27th.
Senior Kevin Kwon also eagled the par 5 hole 13 and shot a 1-over 73. The Pitt Meadow, B.C. native is tied for 44th. Freshman Sam Warkentin and junior Frank Garber both carded a 3-over 75. Warkentin is tied for 68th while Garber sits in a tie for 85th.
The final 18 holes of tournament play are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. PT tomorrow morning. Live scoring will be provided through GolfStat here.
